Built to Last Starts with How It's Made: Playcraft Maintains PCI 4000 Certification
October 21st, 2026
100% in equipment maintenance. 96% in operator training. Independent recognition for the people and processes behind Playcraft's powder coating.
A playground's color is one of the first things you notice. But what goes into creating that finish matters just as much as how it looks.
Before a playground structure ever reaches a school, park, or community, its steel components go through a carefully controlled finishing process. Surface preparation, powder application, curing, and quality inspections all play an important role in producing the durable, colorful finishes playgrounds are known for.
At Playcraft Systems, we're proud to announce that our Grants Pass, Oregon, manufacturing facility has maintained its PCI 4000 Powder Coating Certification, an independent recognition of our commitment to quality manufacturing.
And our latest audit results give us even more reason to celebrate.
Exceptional Results, Independently Verified

Those were two of Playcraft's scores during our most recent certification audit conducted through the Powder Coating Institute (PCI).
These results reflect the work our manufacturing team puts into maintaining equipment, training employees, and following the procedures that support a consistent finishing operation.
They're also a testament to something we believe strongly: great playgrounds don't happen by accident. They're the result of doing the little things right, every day.
What Makes PCI 4000 Certification Special?
PCI 4000 isn't a certification you earn simply by producing a great-looking finished product.
Developed specifically for original equipment manufacturers, the program evaluates the systems, equipment, training, and quality controls behind a company's powder coating operation.
An independent auditor examines critical aspects of the finishing process, including:
- Surface preparation: How steel and other materials are prepared before coating.
- Powder application: The equipment and procedures used to apply the finish.
- Oven curing: How the curing process is controlled and monitored.
- Equipment maintenance: The systems used to keep finishing equipment operating properly.
- Employee training and quality control: How teams are trained and how manufacturing standards are documented and maintained.
The certification recognizes manufacturers that demonstrate the capabilities and processes needed to produce high-quality powder-coated products.
It's a meaningful distinction because the evaluation goes beyond what a finished component looks like. It examines the manufacturing operation responsible for producing it.
Why This Matters for Your Playground
Playgrounds are built for the outdoors. They're exposed to sunshine, rain, changing temperatures, and years of active play.
A quality powder-coated finish is an important part of protecting steel playground equipment while maintaining the vibrant colors that bring a design to life.
But producing that finish consistently takes more than good materils. It requires the right equipment, trained employees, controlled processes, and attention to detail throughout manufacturing.
At Playcraft, we manage key manufacturing operations in-house at our Grants Pass facility. That gives our team direct oversight of the processes behind the equipment we build.
Our PCI 4000 certification provides independent validation that our powder coating operation meets the program's demanding requirements. It's another reason schools, parks, landscape architects, and community partners can have confidence in the care behind our products.
A Recognition That Belongs to Our Team
Maintaining PCI 4000 certification isn't a one-time accomplishment. The program requires ongoing reviews and periodic recertification, reinforcing the importance of continuous improvement.
Our latest results reflect the dedication of the employees who maintain our equipment, operate our finishing systems, inspect our products, and take pride in their work.
To our manufacturing team: thank you for the care and craftsmanship you bring to Playcraft every day.
A certification is something we can display. The work behind it is what makes us proud.
